Skalunda

Skalunda, like Strö and Söne, is situated in a rural district south-east of Lake Vänern. The parishes are part of the rural deanery of Kålland. These churches are all built of dressed sandstone, freestone, and have square chancels. The choice of material in the walls is remarkable because the sandstone had to be transported about 20 km along Lake Vänern.

Conspicuous features of the church of Skalunda are the south portal arch with free standing columns, the west portal and the wall-plate of pine in the chancel which is ornamented with arabesques. The dating of the timber from tie-beams and the wall plate of the nave indicates the felling year to the period 1145 - 1148.
